VisiTyre Reduces Vehicle CO2 Emissions

VisiTyre is a technology that can make a significant contribution to reducing vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. This technology effectively lowers fuel consumption by monitoring correct tyre pressures which in turn reduces motor vehicle CO2 emissions.

The relationship between underinflated tyre pressures and a vehicle's measured greenhouse gas emissions [3] may be understood as follows:

Underinflated tyres present an increased rolling resistance of the tyres on the road and consequently the vehicle's engine must use more petrol to generate extra power to overcome that increased resistance. More petrol used, not only translates directly to increased costs for the motoring public at the petrol pump, but also results in increased combustion products and CO2 emissions into the environment.

Thus, the dynamic monitoring and maintenance of correct tyre pressures using VisiTyre TPMS technology can contribute significantly to reduced tyre wear, lower petrol consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

NASCAR sums up the importance of maintaining correct tyre pressures ...

"Tires that are underinflated by 6 to 7 pounds per square inch increase tire rolling resistance 10 percent or more, increase tread wear rates and tire fatigue. When a tire is underinflated, the tire's road contact zone and cyclic stress level changes resulting in undesirable loss in tire and vehicle performance." [7].

In the European Union, the European Commission has said that Tyre Pressure Monitoring can effectively reduce emissions from light van fleets by as much as 3% by reducing fuel consumption by as much as 10%.

In the EU mandatory tyre pressure monitoring systems are considered to be a major way of reducing CO2 emissions and consequently legislative processes are underway to make TPMS mandatory as an environmental measure [1].

Conclusion: VisiTyre Batteryless TPMS will contribute directly to reducing both wasted fuel and CO2 emmissions by alerting drivers to underinflated tyres. Importantly, VisiTyre supports a Fleet Management architecture which can be implemented to significantly increase tyre life, reduce fuel costs and reduce CO2 emissions. [2]
